Make Your Own Rug with Tufting

Create your own rug using your unique design and favorite colors. To get started, you'll need a tufting gun, a frame, tufting cloth, yarn, and backing materials. Our step-by-step guide shows you how to tuft your very first rug.

How to Start Tufting: What Do You Need?

Making your own rug is easier than you might think! To get started, you'll need a tufting gun, tufting frame, primary tufting cloth, yarn, and finishing materials such as rug glue and secondary backing. A tufting starter kit is a great way to get the essential tools in one package. Whether you're making your first small rug or planning a larger project, we have everything you need to bring your designs to life.

How to Choose Yarn and Tufting Cloth for Your Rug

The right materials make all the difference when creating a tufted rug. Wool yarn is durable, naturally resilient, and ideal for floor rugs, while acrylic yarn is an affordable, colorful option for decorative rugs and wall hangings. For the foundation, choose a strong primary tufting cloth that stretches evenly across your frame and holds your stitches securely. Once your rug is finished, use rug glue and secondary backing to give it a neat, lasting finish.
