Change the Yarn Guide

For the KRDI, the yarn guide needs to be adjusted before use. Please consult either of the videos below to see how to adjust it:

For a straight guide

For a bended guide

 Cut to loop

For changing from cut to loop there are 2 methods. One simple method and one advanced method. The advanced method allows for more specific pileheight changes and changing the needle might help you save a little yarn. This method is more used in the carpet industry and the simple method will likely fit your needs.

Cut to loop simple method

this is a super easy way to switch from cut to loop. although not optimal in making really straight lines and saving yarn it will be good enough for most people. you will turn the scissors into a loophead by removing the part that makes the scissors close, in other words keeping it in open state at all times.

Cut to loop advanced method :

Unscrewing parts to take out the needle holder

Written manual

Please note: since may 2021 the KRDI has a generic needle for both cut and loop. This part no longer needs to be changed. Therefore you can now remove the scissors and replace it with the loophead without having to remove the foot and handle. Like in the video below:

Maintenance and lubrication

Please make sure the rails over which the block moves back and forward are properly lubricated so no frictional resistance arises.

Changing the height of the cut pile

Setting the correct pileheight for the KRDI can be quite a challenge, especially for cut pile.

In the below table we have therefore set out 3 different pileheights:

8 mm (lowest)

12 mm (default)

and 18 mm (highest)

For each pileheight we have written down the exact measures of the adjustments to help you get it right and a desciption of how to change it.

Turning “wheel” from the center to the position of the bottom arm

C

The bottom arm is connected to a turning wheel at the back of the machine. It has a gap attached where the arm can be attached. We measure the position of the attachment to the center point of the turning wheel.

 Position of the foot

The position of the foot must always be like this:

With the needle in the heighest position, the foot must be just below the eye of the needle as where the bottom of the needle-eye  is touching the line of the foot.

Trouble shooting

Scissors not closing

There is a part on the foot that determines where the scissors close. You will need to loosen the little black  screw that holds the sliding part in place.
When you have your scissors in the highest position, where they now stay open; Use a tool to move the sliding part to the exact point where the it makes the scissors close and fasten it there.
